Nigerian Navy Partners with ELRA for Maritime Transparency

The Nigerian Navy, led by Chief Naval Staff Vice Admiral Idi Abba, has partnered with the Equipment Leasing Registration Authority (ELRA) to strengthen transparency in the maritime asset leasing sector. This collaboration was formalized during a courtesy visit to the naval headquarters in Abuja, where both parties committed to improving monitoring and compliance with the Equipment Leasing Act of 2015.

ELRA's Chief Executive Officer, Donald Wokoma, outlined the agency's mandate to ensure that leased maritime assets are properly documented and traceable, promoting compliance with regulatory requirements. Vice Admiral Abba emphasized the importance of proper asset registration in enhancing economic oversight and stability within the maritime sector.

The partnership aims to deepen collaboration, improve information sharing, and develop operational frameworks that will boost investor confidence and protect national economic interests. The Equipment Leasing Act of 2015 provides a legal framework for regulating leasing activities in Nigeria, mandating the registration of lease agreements to ensure transparency and legal recognition.
