Nigerian Navy Intensifies Crackdown on Maritime Crimes

The Nigerian Navy has pledged to enhance its operations against piracy, oil theft, and other maritime crimes in Cross River State. This commitment was made by Rear Admiral Chiedozie Okehie, the Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command, during the closing ceremony of Exercise Littoral Fury, a three-day maritime tactical live firing exercise.

The exercise aimed to improve naval personnel's readiness to respond to maritime security threats and foster collaboration among security agencies. Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, emphasized the Navy's operational readiness and the importance of realistic training for maintaining maritime dominance.

The exercise took place at Dayspring Island, a former militant camp now occupied by the Navy, which aims to enhance security and boost commercial activities in the region. Ibrahim noted that the Navy's presence would increase safety and confidence among residents, facilitating commerce and improving security in the waterways leading towards Cameroon.
