NBA Lawyers Forum Adopts Landmark Disability Policy

The NBA Lawyers Forum has adopted a landmark disability inclusion policy during a meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association's National Executive Council (NEC) in Awka, Anambra State, on May 7, 2026. This policy aims to institutionalize access and provide reasonable accommodations for lawyers and law students with disabilities, ensuring their equal participation in Nigeria's legal ecosystem.

Ms. Patience Etumudon, Chairperson of the NBA Lawyers Forum, described the adoption of the policy as a significant turning point for lawyers with disabilities, emphasizing that access must become a priority in NBA programs and activities.

Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN, the NBA President, was commended for his commitment to advancing the rights of lawyers with disabilities. Mr.

Omamuzo Ereb SAN, the Solicitor General of Delta State, welcomed the policy as a long-overdue development that reflects a shift in the perception of disability rights within the legal profession. The policy aims to ensure that law students with disabilities receive reasonable accommodations in law schools and law firms, promoting an inclusive legal profession.
