NBA President Osigwe Ensures Fair Elections Amid Claims

Mazi Afam Osigwe, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has pledged that the national elections scheduled for July 18-19, 2026, will be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. He dismissed allegations of rigging as unfounded, asserting that the electoral process is being managed by a constitutionally established Electoral Committee of the NBA (ECNBA).

Osigwe criticized the legal challenges posed by some candidates, including a lawsuit filed by Ibrahim Lawal, which sought to restrain the ECNBA from functioning. He noted that the NBA is in discussions with the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to resolve disputes amicably.

Osigwe also addressed concerns regarding the security of election-related data and the integrity of the voting process, stating that measures are being put in place to ensure that the elections are not compromised. He reaffirmed that the ECNBA operates independently and that the NBA will not impose any candidate preferences.
