NBA President Responds to Calls for INEC to Declare Governors' Seats Vacant

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) addressed the issue of declaring governors' seats vacant due to defection, following calls by Kenneth Okonkwo after Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri's resignation from the PDP. Okonkwo argued that Diri's seat should be declared vacant for a fresh election.

However, NBA President Osigwe dismissed Okonkwo's interpretation as baseless and unconstitutional, emphasizing that only legislative actions, not executive decisions, can lead to the loss of office. The situation arose amidst speculations of defections to the APC in Bayelsa and Enugu states.
