NBC and NigComSat Launch Digital TV Technician Training

The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Nigerian Communications Satellite (NigComSat) began a training program on Friday to prepare 50 set-top box installation technicians in Ibadan. This initiative is part of efforts to accelerate Nigeria's long-delayed transition from analog to digital television broadcasting.

The training, scheduled to take place at the NBC zonal office in Ibadan, is the first nationwide capacity-building exercise aimed at equipping technicians with the necessary skills for the Digital Switch Over (DSO) program. Clementin Usman Wamba, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at NBC, emphasized the importance of this training in ensuring the success of the digital migration program, which has faced previous setbacks.

The final analog switch-off is scheduled for December 31, 2028, with a new strategy to combine terrestrial and satellite technologies to improve coverage, especially in rural areas. The initiative is expected to provide 100 free-to-air digital television channels to approximately 40 million households nationwide.
