NBC Urges Stations to Prepare for 2028 DSO Deadline

On Thursday, the Nigeria Broadcast Corporation (NBC) called on broadcasting stations across Nigeria to prepare for the 2028 global deadline for digital switch-over (DSO). During the 2026 South West Summit in Ibadan, Mr.

Clementin Wamba, who is associated with the DSO initiative, presented the "big picture" of DSO, highlighting the evolution of the media landscape. He stressed the necessity for practitioners to adopt DSO transmission and new programming to meet future challenges.

Mr. Wamba cautioned that broadcasting stations failing to align with the DSO by 2028 risk becoming irrelevant, which could lead to significant job losses and hinder the growth of the Nigerian broadcasting industry.

He noted that free TV services would be tailored to DSO provisions, improving access and viewer experience compared to traditional analogue broadcasts. Mr.

Wamba reiterated that the NBC would continue to educate stakeholders on the advantages and benefits of a smooth transition to DSO.
