NBC Trains Technicians in Ibadan for Digital TV Transition

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) conducted a training program in Ibadan, Oyo State, aimed at preparing technicians for the installation of set-top boxes as part of Nigeria's transition from analog to digital television. Clementin Usman Wamba, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at NBC, emphasized the importance of this training in supporting the Digital Switch Over (DSO) program, which aims to end analog broadcasting by 2028.

The training involved 50 technicians and was part of a nationwide capacity-building exercise designed to facilitate the rollout of digital television across the country. The initiative is crucial for ensuring that Nigerians can access free TV channels without subscription, particularly through the installation of decoders linked to Nigcomsat signals.

Raji Taohe Olanrewaju noted that the training would create employment opportunities for youth and assist low-income earners in accessing television content. Gbenga Oluduro highlighted the technical skills provided during the training, which are essential for the successful implementation of the DSO project.
