NBC Calls for Stronger Cooperation to Tackle Security Threats

The National Boundary Commission (NBC), under the leadership of Director General Adamu Adaji, called for enhanced cooperation among African governments, academia, border communities, and development partners to address increasing security and governance challenges in border areas. This appeal was made during the opening of the 2026 International Conference of the African Borderlands Research Network (ABORNE) held in Lagos from August 24 to 28.

The conference theme was “The Connected Borderlands, Socio-Cultural Integration, and the Centrality of Policy, Research, and Security.” Adaji highlighted the importance of rigorous research and evidence-based policies for effective border governance, which must extend beyond mere physical infrastructure and security measures. The NBC participated in a plenary roundtable discussing boundary delimitation and transboundary security, featuring key figures such as Nurudeen Abba, Dr. Farouk Tarfa, and Commodore M.

S. Shettima.

Adaji stressed the necessity for sustainable solutions through collaboration and a rethinking of border governance that balances sovereignty with cooperation.
