NBF Targets Six Golds at 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) is focusing on redemption at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow following a disappointing performance at the Olympics. NBF Vice President Omonlei Imadu stated the federation is targeting ten medals, including six golds.

Imadu emphasized the need for thorough preparation, with plans for a training camp to ensure boxers are in peak condition. Notable athletes include Patricia Mbata, an African Games gold medallist, and Kenneth Anigboro, a finalist in the men's 90kg class.

The Commonwealth Games will take place from July 24 to August 1, 2026, featuring 14 events across men's and women's categories. The NBF is committed to improving its performance after a challenging period, including a recent 4-3 defeat to Ghana in a warm-up match.

Imadu acknowledged the need for better training facilities and expressed optimism about Nigeria's prospects, stating that every boxer is expected to return with a medal from Scotland.
