NCC Advances Dig Once Policy for Broadband Efficiency

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting efficient broadband infrastructure deployment in Nigeria by advancing the Dig Once Policy. On Wednesday, during a stakeholder consultation forum held at the NCC annex office in Mbora, Abuja, the commission engaged various representatives from federal and state governments, telecommunications institutions, infrastructure companies, and industry associations.

The forum aimed to develop a price mechanism for a cost-based structure for sharing underground duct infrastructure. Ayuba Shuaibu, NCC's Director of Policy, Competition, and Economic Analysis, emphasized the commission's commitment to an open and transparent regulatory process that accommodates the interests of infrastructure providers and network operators.

The proposed framework is intended to encourage infrastructure sharing, improve asset utilization, and reduce broadband deployment costs. The NCC aims to ensure that the final study report incorporates stakeholder contributions and results in a commercially sustainable framework that balances the interests of infrastructure providers and access seekers.
