NCC Advocates for African Unity in Global Telecom Policies

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), under the leadership of Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, has called for stronger collaboration among African nations to boost the continent's influence in global telecommunications and digital economy policies.

This appeal was made during the opening ceremony of the 7th Ordinary Session of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Conference Preparatory Committee held in Abuja. The meeting aims to prepare Africa's common positions for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26) scheduled for later this year in Doha, Qatar.

Maida emphasized the importance of coherent positions and consistent engagement among member states to enhance Africa's participation in global discussions. The committee will review ATU activities from 2023 to 2026 and prepare recommendations for the upcoming ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26).

He also highlighted the need for ongoing regulatory cooperation on issues like spectrum harmonization, cybersecurity, and digital trust to ensure Africa's perspectives are represented in global digital transformation discussions.
