NCC and ALTON Launch Free Daily Data Scheme for Learners

On October 1, 2026, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) initiated a program offering eligible learners 100 megabytes of free daily data for accessing approved educational platforms. This initiative aims to support approximately 5,000 learners and is part of a broader effort to enhance digital skills in Nigeria, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic growth target of $1 trillion.
Dr Aminu Maida, NCC Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, emphasized that improved connectivity could bridge the gap between students and educational resources nationwide. Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, ALTON Chairman, noted that the telecom sector has committed nearly N200 billion in financial and in-kind support for the pilot phase, which includes daily connectivity allocations and devices.
Adebayo also called for collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the program's success in improving learning outcomes.
