Telecom Operators Support Free Data for Nigerian Students

Telecommunication operators in Nigeria, including MTN and Airtel, have endorsed the Federal Government's Zero-Rated Access to Educational Platforms and Content Programme. This initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), aims to provide subscribers access to approved educational platforms without incurring data charges.

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), represented by Chairman Gbenga Adebayo and Publicity Secretary Damian Udeh, described the programme as a significant step towards expanding educational opportunities and promoting digital inclusion. The initiative is expected to facilitate teaching, learning, examination preparation, and access to digital educational resources, particularly benefiting students facing financial or geographical barriers.

ALTON emphasized the importance of affordable internet access for educational purposes and reaffirmed its commitment to work with the NCC, the Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders for effective implementation. The programme aligns with broader government objectives for human capital development and digital literacy, contributing to a more skilled workforce and supporting Nigeria's economic growth.
