NCDC Alerts Public on Potential Cholera Outbreak

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has issued a public health advisory warning of a possible cholera outbreak linked to anticipated flooding in various states, including Adamawa, Enugu, Kaduna, Kogi, Niger, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, and Kwara. The advisory was released on Wednesday evening, following predictions from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency indicating heavy rainfall and flooding between April 13th and 17th, 2026.

The NCDC emphasizes the importance of safe drinking water, recommending that residents boil or chlorinate water and maintain proper hand hygiene. Additionally, they are urged to avoid floodwaters, ensure proper sanitation, and store food safely.

The advisory encourages the use of insecticide-treated nets and immediate medical attention for symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever. Local leaders are called upon to promote sanitation and ensure access to clean water while encouraging early reporting of illnesses to support public awareness efforts.
