NDC Aspirants Oppose Imposition of Senatorial Candidate

Aspirants from the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) have warned against the imposition of a senatorial candidate for the Enugu North senatorial district. During a strategic meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, stakeholders stressed the importance of internal democracy, transparency, and fairness in selecting candidates.

They highlighted that the Nsukka zone accounts for approximately 56% of Enugu State's votes and warned that ignoring the sentiments of the people could lead to severe electoral consequences for the party. The communique issued by the stakeholders indicated that aspirants contesting various electoral positions on the NDC platform would withdraw their support if a candidate is imposed against the wishes of grassroots members.

They dismissed the influence of money in politics and reaffirmed that electoral victories in Nsukka depend on credible and integrative competition rather than elite endorsements. The stakeholders also recalled the Labour Party's success in the 2023 general elections in the Nsukka zone, demonstrating the electorate's long-standing resistance to imposed candidates.
