NDC South-East Warns Against Candidate Imposition Ahead of 2027

The NDC South-East, under the leadership of Chairman Maxwel Igbokw, has issued a warning against the imposition of candidates as political parties prepare to upload their candidates' names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal for the 2027 elections. During a press conference in Abuja, Igbokw emphasized the need for strict adherence to internal democracy, ensuring that candidates emerge transparently from primary elections.

He expressed concern over the delayed release of results from primary elections conducted two months prior, which he described as potentially deepening divisions within the party. Igbokw called on party leadership to uphold the NDC constitution and respect the outcomes of the primary process.

He highlighted allegations of manipulation in the House of Representatives primary for the FCT, citing a recent public statement by party leader Seriake Dickson regarding the candidacy of activist Aisha Yesufu, who declined a nomination despite being mentioned. The NDC aims to distance itself from undemocratic practices associated with older political parties.
