NDC Holds Inaugural Convention to Reconnect with Citizens

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) conducted its inaugural national convention on May 9, 2026, at the Angel Event Centre Mall in Abuja. The event aimed to reconnect with ordinary citizens and address the political disillusionment prevalent in Nigeria, particularly in light of economic hardships, insecurity, and unemployment.

The convention drew significant attendance, with thousands of supporters from across Nigeria's 36 states and federal territories. Notable figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso were present, reflecting a perceived alliance to form a formidable third force capable of challenging the ruling parties in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The NDC seeks to project a leadership philosophy rooted in justice and inclusivity, moving away from ethnic supremacy and power for its own sake. The convention also indicated a strategic decision to acknowledge the delicate balance of Nigeria's federal character, particularly regarding the southern region's representation in the presidential ticket.
