Atiku's Aide Urges Opposition Unity After Court Ruling

Paul Ib, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, called for unity among Nigeria's opposition leaders in light of a Federal High Court ruling that nullified a previous judgment affecting the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The ruling, made on Friday in Lokoja, Kogi State, is viewed as a clear signal that opposition parties face increasing political challenges and must work together to effectively contest the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Ib described the judgment as a rallying point for opposition figures, accusing President Bola Tinubu's administration of attempting to weaken democratic competition. He emphasized that despite the legal setback, opposition leaders have sufficient time to build a broad coalition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential election, specifically mentioning potential alliances with figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The court's decision also restored the NDC's legal status, which had been affected by earlier judgments.
