NDC Confirms Primaries on May 29 Despite Eid Holidays

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its presidential, national assembly, governorship, and state assembly primaries will take place nationwide on May 29, 2026, despite the challenges posed by the Eid-el-Kabir holidays. Senator Moses Cleopa, the NDC National Chairman, explained that the decision to hold the primaries on this date was made necessary due to transport and logistical disruptions caused by the holiday period, which included flight unavailability that left aspirants stranded in Abuja.

Cleopa outlined that May 28 will be dedicated to the arrival of documents and consultations with security agencies in preparation for the primaries. He warned that no state institution, including the police, DSS, or INEC, is authorized to participate in activities on May 28 outside the approved guidelines, as such actions would be considered illegal.

The NDC chair urged members and aspirants to maintain peace and orderliness throughout the exercise, stressing that the party will not tolerate violence or disorderly conduct during the primaries.
