NDC Rejects Nasarawa North By-Election Results, Demands New Poll

The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally rejected the results of the Nasarawa North senatorial by-election, calling for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the election due to alleged electoral irregularities. In a statement issued on Sunday by the party's public secretary, Danjuma Joseph, the NDC claimed that its logo was omitted from official electoral materials, which they argue confused voters and negatively impacted their performance.

The party noted that its logo was absent from result sheets and that no NDC agents were allowed to sign at the ward and local government levels. Furthermore, the NDC alleged that the use of different symbols by INEC during the election misled voters.

They reported malfunctions in the bimodal voter accreditation system, undermining the credibility of the electoral process. The NDC accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of benefiting from manipulated results, although they did not provide specific evidence.

The party intends to pursue legal options to protect its democratic rights following the death of the former senator, Godiya Akwashiki, which led to the election.
