NDDC Promotes Community Ownership for Project Protection

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) held a capacity-building event in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, focusing on the theme of community ownership to protect NDDC projects. Hon. Ifedayo Abegund, Executive Director of Corporate Services, stressed the need for community stakeholders to safeguard critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, schools, and health facilities, to prevent vandalism.

He noted that for two decades, NDDC has remained committed to facilitating sustainable development in the region. The event included various stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community development associations.

Evong Moduck Evong, the NDDC State Director for Akwa Ibom, emphasized that sustainable development relies on community commitment and ownership. He clarified that NDDC does not award contracts to local contractors but engages local labor, addressing misconceptions about project management.

The NDDC aims to foster a culture of ownership to ensure that completed projects are protected and maintained for the benefit of the communities.
