NDDC Compensates Property Owners for Road Project

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is accelerating the construction of the Okrika-Borikiri road in Rivers State by paying compensation to property owners affected by the project. Martin Isichei, the NDDC Assistant Director of Infrastructure Development, confirmed that compensation payments have been made to property owners along the Borikiri alignment, allowing for the imminent demolition of structures to commence.

The project includes three bridges: Kolabi Bridge (180m), Abotoru Bridge (1,120m), and Okpoka Bridge (490m). Isichei noted that the NDDC aims to resolve compensation issues swiftly to ensure work progresses without delays.

Engr Azu Chukwuma mentioned that the project scope is under review to address current realities, and the first set of beam work will soon begin, primarily involving river marine logistics. The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion on the Refinery Road and provide an alternative route, ultimately fostering socio-economic development in the Okrika area.
