NDLEA Arrests 93-Year-Old and Doctor in Drug Bust

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted a nationwide drug crackdown, resulting in the arrest of a 93-year-old man and a 69-year-old doctor. Femi Babafemi, the agency's spokesman, disclosed that the arrests were part of intensified operations against drug cartels.

The nonagenarian was apprehended at his home in Osisioma, Abia, on April 7, 2023, where 7.7 kilograms of skunk strain cannabis were recovered. The elderly suspect had reportedly entered the drug trade after previously working as a truck pusher and claimed to have smoked skunk since 1959.

The operation also led to the arrest of an accomplice at Kano Airport, where 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.49 kilograms were discovered during an outward clearance for an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Milan. The doctor, arrested on March 27, 2023, was linked to the drug trade through traceable evidence.

Additionally, three suspects were arrested in Ogun State with 34 kilograms of skunk on April 7, 2023.
