NDLEA Arrests Businessman with Cocaine at Lagos Airport

On September 27, 2026, Philip Tunde, a 38-year-old businessman, was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. He was found with 4.80kg of cocaine concealed in the soles of shoes and the railings of travelling bags while preparing to board a Royal Air Maroc flight to Milan, Italy.
The NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, reported that operatives recovered 16 parcels of cocaine hidden in eight pairs of trainers and canvas shoes, along with 195 wraps found in four travelling bags. Tunde stated during interrogation that he paid N16 million in cash for the cocaine, which he intended to deliver to a partner in Italy.
He claimed to have raised the money from compensation received after losing the tips of two fingers in an injury while working at a plastic manufacturing company in Italy.
