NDLEA Seizes N6.2bn Drugs at Lagos Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted illicit drug consignments valued at over N6.2 billion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. This included 47,200 Captagon tablets, known as the “Jihadi drug,” concealed in a carton of locally made bathing soap.

Akinbile Kazeem Aikins, a 49-year-old who arrived from Accra, Ghana, on August 22, 2026, was arrested in connection with this consignment, valued at more than N1.5 billion. Captagon, an amphetamine-based stimulant, has links to financing in conflict zones.

Following his arrest, Aikins stated the drugs were intended for delivery in northern Nigeria. Additionally, NDLEA recovered 3,900,030 tablets of Tramaking and Tapentadol, weighing 2,787.40kg and valued at over N4.6 billion, from four abandoned consignments at the airport.

These consignments had been monitored after no one claimed them and were retrieved on August 28, following a joint examination by NDLEA personnel and Customs officials.
