NDLEA Seizes N6.2bn Drugs at Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted significant shipments of captagon, known as the "Jihadi drug," and opioids valued at over N6.2bn at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. On Saturday, August 22, 2026, NDLEA operatives arrested Akinbile Kazeem Aikins, a 49-year-old cross-border drug kingpin, who arrived from Accra, Ghana, on an African World Airlines flight.

A search of his carton of local bathing soap revealed 47,200 pills of captagon concealed within blocks of soap, worth over N1.5bn. Akinbile claimed he intended to deliver the consignment in Northern Nigeria.

In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives recovered 3,900,030 tablets of Tramaking and Tapentadol, with a combined weight of 2,787.40kg and an estimated value exceeding N4.6bn, from four abandoned consignments at the airport. These consignments had arrived on RwandAir and Qatar Airways flights.

The NDLEA also arrested Sowunmi David Oludotun, a 31-year-old US returnee, for attempting to collect cannabis imported from the UK.
