NDLEA and NDE Collaborate on Drug Rehabilitation in Abia

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) are partnering to rehabilitate drug addicts in Abia State, Nigeria. During a visit, Chile Chigbu, the state coordinator of the NDLEA, highlighted the importance of sustained support for the recovery process of rehabilitating drug addicts.

Nwachukwu Tessi, the national director of employment at NDE, stressed that rehabilitation alone is insufficient without proper societal reintegration. She appealed for the introduction of skill acquisition programs for individuals currently undergoing treatment at NDLEA rehabilitation centers.

These programs aim to equip rehabilitated drug users with practical skills to better cope during their recovery. Tessi further urged the NDE to consider providing employment opportunities for rehabilitated individuals, noting that engagement in productive activities can help prevent relapse and ensure they remain responsible members of society.

The NDE has professional trainers across the state ready to support skill acquisition programs covering eighty different vocational skills.
