NDLEA Seizes 498kg of Cannabis in Edo State Raid

On May 22, 2026, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted a raid in Igw Community, Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State, seizing a total of 498 kilograms of cannabis. The operation was led by Mitchel Ofoyeju, who disclosed that the illicit drugs were abandoned by members of a drug syndicate.

The agency recovered 59 bags of skunk cannabis weighing 489 kilograms and an additional 9 kilograms of cannabis seeds. The primary suspect in this case is a notorious drug baron known as Renr Larg, who reportedly resisted the NDLEA's efforts to search the location, which was claimed to be a shrine.

The NDLEA emphasized its commitment to continue pursuing drug barons and combating the deadly drug trade, asserting its authority under the NDLEA Act to search any location suspected of concealing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
