NDLEA Seizes 5.7 Tonnes of Drugs, Convicts 68 in Kwara

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized 5.7 tonnes of illicit drugs in Kwara State and convicted 68 suspects within the last year, as disclosed by Fatima Popoola, the NDLEA Kwara State Command head. The agency arrested 985 suspects involved in drug trafficking and usage, with significant seizures made along the Ogbomosho-Jebba corridor, a major transit route for drug trafficking due to its strategic location.

Recent operations included the interception of a luxury vehicle carrying hundreds of kilograms of cannabis and the arrest of individuals involved in the sale of cannabis-infused products online. Popoola expressed concern over the rise of synthetic drugs and the evolving methods traffickers use to evade law enforcement.

The NDLEA also uncovered illegal methamphetamine laboratories in Ogun State and emphasized the importance of treatment and rehabilitation for drug users, with 29 individuals admitted to rehabilitation facilities and 213 receiving intervention services.
