NDLEA Seizes 14.8m kg of Drugs, Arrests 77,859 Suspects

Buba Marwa, the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), revealed that the agency has arrested 77,859 suspects and seized over 14.8 million kilograms of illicit drugs from January 2021 to December 2025. This announcement was made during the signing of Executive Orders on drug abuse and societal reorientation by Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi in Dutse.

Marwa described drug abuse as a silent pandemic contributing to insecurity and economic sabotage, eroding the productivity of the youth. He highlighted the agency's shift from reactive to offensive operations, resulting in 240 high-profile drug baron arrests and 14,122 convictions.

Additionally, over 50,000 individuals have been counseled and rehabilitated across 31 treatment centers. Marwa praised the Jigawa State Government's proactive measures and urged other states to adopt similar strategies.

He commended the appointment of CN Ibrahim Braji (Rtd) as Coordinator of the State Task Force, expecting transformative leadership in the fight against drugs.
