NDPHC to Boost Lagos Power Supply by 1,500MW

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), under the leadership of Managing Director Jennifer Adighij, has pledged to boost Lagos's power supply by an additional 1,500 megawatts. During a courtesy visit to Temitope George, the Managing Director of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Adighij disclosed that the company currently has a stranded generation capacity of 2,000MW.

Lagos presently receives only 1,000MW from the national grid, despite an estimated demand of nearly 12,000MW, resulting in a substantial supply gap. Adighij emphasized NDPHC's commitment to bridging this deficit through increased investment in generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure.

She noted that NDPHC owns the largest power generation assets in Sub-Saharan Africa, with an installed capacity of 4,000MW, although only 400MW to 500MW is dispatched daily. The company aims to play a significant role in power sector reforms and infrastructure development in Lagos, which is recognized as a commercially viable electricity market.
