NDPHC Restores 450MW Alaoji Power Plant in Abia State

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has successfully restored the 450 megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State, which had been shut down for three years due to gas supply disputes and financial obligations. Jennifer Adighij, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, disclosed this during a meeting with Abia State Governor Alex Otti.

The plant's shutdown in 2023 was prompted by disputes over gas metering and the suspension of gas supply by TotalEnergies, leading to accumulated debts. Following extensive technical and financial interventions, the plant has resumed operations, with three generating units identified (GT1, GT22, GT23) capable of dispatching 375 megawatts to the national grid.

The restoration of the plant is expected to stabilize electricity supply in the southeastern region of Nigeria. Governor Otti emphasized the plant's potential to stimulate industrial growth and improve living conditions in the state.
