NDPHC Revives 450MW Alaoji Power Plant in Abia State

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), led by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Adighij, has successfully revived the 450MW Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State, which had been shut down for 36 months due to gas supply disputes and financial obligations owed to gas suppliers, including TotalEnergies. During a meeting with Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Adighij outlined the extensive technical and financial interventions undertaken to restore the facility.

The plant, which is strategically located near gas reserves in the Niger Delta, is designed primarily as a gas-fired power plant and is capable of dispatching 375 megawatts to the national grid. The restoration included major electromechanical work on three generating units (GT1, GT22, GT23) and addressed previous financial obligations to gas suppliers.

Governor Otti described the revival of the Alaoji plant as a significant development that could stimulate industrial growth and improve living conditions in the state.
