NDPHC Restores Alaoji Power Plant After Three-Year Shutdown

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has successfully restored the Alaoji Power Plant in Abia State after it was shut down for nearly three years due to a gas supply dispute with TotalEnergies. Jennifer Adighij, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, announced the restoration during a meeting with Abia State Governor Alex Otti.

The plant, which was shut down in 2023, underwent extensive electromechanical rehabilitation, allowing it to dispatch 375 megawatts of electricity to the national grid. Adighij commended the ongoing reforms in Abia's power sector, particularly the establishment of a state electricity regulatory agency.

Governor Otti noted the plant's potential to expand from its current capacity of 450 megawatts to 800 megawatts, and eventually to 1,100 megawatts, depending on available funding. He emphasized that electricity is a crucial driver of economic development, and the state government is prioritizing power infrastructure.
