Former Senator Urges Support for IDP Resettlement Amid Boko Haram Crisis

Former Senator Ali Ndume has called on the Nigerian government to assist in the safe return and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno State who have been affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. The appeal was made during a Christmas luncheon organized in collaboration with Victim Support International.

The IDP situation in Nigeria, with the third-highest number of IDPs in Africa, is critical, with overcrowded camps lacking basic necessities leading to dire living conditions. The IDPs, predominantly women and children, face severe risks including malnutrition, lack of access to education, and health issues.

The government, donor agencies, and NGOs are urged to address these challenges to improve the quality of life in IDP camps.
