Tinubu's N80bn Flood Fund Receives Praise from Stakeholders

Stakeholders from the North East Forum have commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the release of an N80 billion flood intervention fund. This fund is designated for relevant government agencies and institutions to implement flood control interventions across the country.

The forum described the intervention as timely, stating it will help mitigate the impact of floods on vulnerable communities, especially as warnings about increasing flood risks due to persistent rainfall continue. The Managing Director of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADAC), Abubakar Yelwa, was praised for his proactive measures aimed at reducing flood impacts across member states.

The forum expressed confidence that the funds would be judiciously utilized to address the looming challenges posed by torrential rains and potential flash floods. Additionally, the group noted various interventions in Taraba State, including the provision of life jackets, solar streetlights, and support for students, emphasizing the commission's focus on improving the welfare of residents.
