NECA Unveils ESG Guide for MSME Sustainability in Nigeria

On May 8, 2026, the Nigeria Employers' Consultative Association (NECA) launched an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Implementation Guide aimed at strengthening the sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria. The launch took place at NECA House in Ikeja, Lagos, and was part of a partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Director General of NECA, Adewale Smatt Oyerind, explained that the guide is designed to help MSMEs integrate ESG principles into their operations, enabling them to adopt responsible, transparent, and sustainable business practices. Oyerind noted that MSMEs often struggle to understand and implement ESG requirements due to cost concerns.

The guide is based on extensive research and aims to improve ESG awareness among Nigerian businesses and investors. NECA reaffirmed its commitment to support businesses beyond the guide's launch by continuing engagement, training, and advisory services to deepen ESG adoption across sectors.
