Dino Melaye Critiques NELFUND's Student Loan Scheme

Dino Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) of being a "haven of corruption" while criticizing the Federal Government's student loan scheme under President Bola Tinubu. Melaye questioned the adequacy of the N20,000 monthly upkeep allowance provided to student beneficiaries, arguing that this amount is insufficient to cover annual tuition fees in government-owned tertiary institutions.

He challenged the government's claim that it is paying students' school fees, stating, “Which government school takes N20,000 as annual school fees?” Melaye's comments contribute to the ongoing debate regarding the effectiveness and impact of the student loan scheme, particularly in light of increasing education-related costs and whether the financial support offered is adequate to alleviate the financial burden on students and their families.
