NELFUND Clears June, July Allowance Backlog for Students

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has initiated the payment of outstanding upkeep allowances for June and July 2026, providing each eligible student beneficiary with ₦40,000 to cover the two-month backlog. This disbursement follows the recent payment of ₦20,000 for May, alleviating concerns raised by beneficiaries regarding delays.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by President Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, had previously urged authorities to expedite these payments, emphasizing the importance of the student loan scheme introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ease financial burdens on students and their families. The recent payments have generated excitement among students across various educational institutions, who shared their relief on social media.

While many praised the initiative for reducing financial pressure, some beneficiaries expressed concerns over previous delays affecting their basic needs. NANS assured students that all outstanding arrears would be settled as payments continue in batches, urging NELFUND to establish a more predictable payment schedule.
