NEMA Distributes Relief Materials to Cross River Fire Victims

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has initiated the distribution of relief materials to individuals affected by a recent fire disaster in Cross River State. The exercise was launched from the SEMA warehouse in Calabar and included essential items such as rice, garri, beans, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, and cement.

Mmandu Aisueni, head of operations, expressed sympathy for the victims and emphasized the importance of utilizing the relief items judiciously. Zubaida Umar, the Director-General of NEMA, also conveyed her condolences and urged beneficiaries to adopt proactive measures for disaster risk reduction.

During the event, Ita Okon Nyong, representing the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for the federal government's prompt intervention. The distribution follows a fire explosion that occurred in early March, which caused significant damage, prompting a visit from Cross River State Governor Bassey Otuha to assess the situation and assure victims of immediate government support.
