NEMA Strengthens Partnership with ABU for Disaster Management

On Tuesday, Zubaida Umar, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), reaffirmed the agency's commitment to strengthening its collaboration with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria to enhance disaster risk management. This statement was made during a courtesy visit to NEMA's headquarters in Abuja, where Umar welcomed the university's management team led by Vice Chancellor Adamu Ahm.

Umar assured that NEMA is dedicated to scaling up the existing partnership, emphasizing the critical role of academic institutions in advancing research and innovation for disaster management. She highlighted the agency's focus on disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, and public awareness campaigns to build community resilience.

Additionally, she noted the importance of establishing effective local emergency management committees to enhance community-based disaster risk management. Vice Chancellor Adamu Ahm commended Umar for her exemplary leadership and acknowledged NEMA's progress in disaster management and humanitarian coordination.
