NEMA Launches EW4All Initiative for Early Warnings

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, convened a meeting in Abuja to announce the launch of the EW4All initiative, which aims to create a fully operational multi-hazard early warning system in Nigeria. This initiative will facilitate a shared understanding among stakeholders, define institutional roles, establish coordination mechanisms, and outline immediate actions and timelines.

Zubaida Umar referenced United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who described Early Warnings for All as a national security and development priority for Nigeria. Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), stressed the importance of effective communication in disseminating early warning information.

Matthew Adepoju, Director-General of NASRDA, highlighted the role of space science in disaster management, while Ahmed Ibrahim Mohammed, Director-General of NIHSA, emphasized the need for effective early warning systems to mitigate disaster impacts. Charles Anosike, Director-General of NiMet, reaffirmed the agency's commitment to providing timely weather and climate information.
