NERC Supports Harmonized Electricity Market Regulations

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has expressed support for the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe's initiative aimed at establishing harmonized regulations across Nigeria's electricity market. During a workshop held in Abuja, Dr.

Musiliu Oseni, NERC Chairman, stressed the importance of stakeholders working collaboratively towards a unified goal of expanding access to reliable electricity, which he described as foundational for national development. He urged stakeholders to set aside institutional rivalries to deliver better outcomes for electricity consumers.

Dr. Oseni called for sustained dialogue and stronger cooperation among federal and state regulatory bodies as Nigeria transitions to a decentralized electricity market under the Electric Power Act of 2023.

He proposed regular meetings of the National Council on Power (NACOP) to improve policy coordination and ensure regulatory alignment during this ongoing transition, which is critical for achieving an efficient and reliable electricity market.
