NERC Supports Minister's Call for Electricity Market Coordination

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has endorsed the call made by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, for enhanced coordination among stakeholders in Nigeria's electricity market. This endorsement was communicated in a press statement signed by NERC's chairman, Dr.

Musiliu Oseni, during a stakeholder workshop held in Abuja. The workshop's theme focused on the legal, policy, and regulatory harmonization necessary for a decentralized Nigerian electricity supply industry.

Dr. Oseni stressed the importance of harmonizing regulatory operations across the electricity sector to ensure that market participants work collaboratively towards expanding access to stable and reliable power, which is critical for national development.

He urged federal and state institutions to strengthen cooperation as Nigeria transitions to a multi-tier electricity market. Additionally, Oseni proposed establishing a structured platform for regular policy and regulatory engagement between federal and state governments to enhance policy coordination and address ongoing issues in the decentralized electricity supply industry.
