FG and NASS Push for Stronger Power Market Coordination

The Federal Government and the National Assembly have renewed their call for stronger collaboration between federal and state regulatory bodies to ensure the successful implementation of Nigeria's decentralized electricity market. This was expressed during a workshop held in Abuja, focusing on the legal and policy frameworks necessary for regulatory harmonization.

Mr. Rilwan Lanr Babalola, the Special Adviser to the President on Power, emphasized that cooperation among stakeholders is essential for a seamless transition under the Electricity Act, which he described as the backbone of industrialization and economic competitiveness.

He urged regulators to focus on building a unified electricity market rather than protecting institutional boundaries. Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, assured stakeholders of the National Assembly's commitment to strengthening the legal framework to enable complementary roles between federal and state regulators.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders to examine the regulatory framework needed to support the decentralized Nigerian electricity supply industry.
