NERDC Reduces Textbook Assessment Fees Ahead of Ranking System

The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has announced a reduction in fees for the assessment and ranking of textbooks, aimed at easing financial pressures on publishers and authors. This decision was communicated in a statement signed by the Executive Secretary, Prof.

Salisu Shehu, and released on Wednesday in Abuja. The assessment fee has been lowered from N2,000 to N1,500 per page, while the ranking fee has decreased from N1 million to N750,000 per title.

Publishers and authors are required to adhere to these revised rates immediately. NERDC also stated that those who previously paid the higher assessment fee would receive refunds, with details on the refund process to be announced soon.

This fee adjustment precedes the implementation of the Federal Government’s National Textbook Ranking System, introduced by Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, which will commence in September 2026.

Under this system, only assessed and ranked textbooks will be allowed in classrooms, ensuring access to high-quality educational materials.
