FAAN Director: New Car Hire System Won't Displace Drivers

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Director stated that the new airport car hire system, Achram, will not displace existing drivers. The initiative is designed to modernize and streamline airport ground transport across Nigeria, addressing inefficiencies in current operations.

Achram will provide a standardized, technology-driven platform to ensure safer, reliable, and hassle-free car hire services for airport users. The project will implement a concession scheme awarded for ten years, with FAAN overseeing operations to maintain standards.

Stakeholder engagement is crucial, with a focus on integrating existing car hire operators into the new system rather than replacing them. The initiative aims to improve passenger safety and service quality through enhanced driver screening and digital traceability.

FAAN clarified that the goal is to enhance revenue generation and operational efficiency, not to remove 60% of existing drivers as previously reported. The pilot launch is set for July 2, 2025, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
