New York Governor Bans ICE Agents from Wearing Masks

On Thursday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued an order prohibiting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from wearing masks while operating in the state. This move challenges the Trump administration's immigration policies, particularly in light of a similar ruling in California that was overturned by a court.

Hochul's order comes as ICE agents are involved in controversial mass deportation campaigns, and she described the agents' use of masks as an intimidation tactic that undermines community trust. The governor emphasized that ICE agents would no longer be allowed to enter sensitive locations such as schools, libraries, and polling sites without a judicial warrant.

She also stated that local police should not cooperate with ICE agents conducting operations solely based on immigration grounds. This decision follows warnings from Tom Homan, a former acting director of ICE, about the implications of such legislation, suggesting it could lead to increased illegal immigration in New York.
