Kwara Fire Service Rescues Newborn from Blaze in Ilorin
A fire incident on Lawyer Lambo Street, Oloje Phase 2, Ilorin, Kwara State, resulted in the destruction of three buildings, affecting residential properties and other belongings. The Kwara State Fire Service spokesperson, Hakeem Adekunle, reported that residents rescued a newborn and the child's parents from their apartment, which was engulfed in flames.
The Fire Service received a distress call and arrived at the scene at 2:41 am. The fire impacted two buildings with four-bedroom flats and a third building containing a self-contained room-and-parlour apartment, which was severely affected.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was triggered by the collapse of a concrete pole supporting a 33kV electricity transmission line, generating sparks that ignited nearby properties. The Fire Service contacted the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to shut down the electricity feeder supplying the area for safety.
Chief Fire Officer Alabi Muhammed expressed sympathy for the affected residents and cautioned against building structures beneath high-tension electricity lines.
